If you are assessed as not having an Acceptable Standard of Health (ASH), your case will be referred to Immigration New Zealand’s medical assessor. This is to determine if your condition is likely to endanger public health or place significant demands or costs on New Zealand’s health services. Immigration New Zealand while deciding whether to grant you a medical waiver or not will take into consideration things like:

• The objectives of its health requirements and the objectives of the category under which the visa application has been made
• The degree to which significant costs or demands will be imposed on New Zealand’s health or education services
• Whether you have immediate family lawfully and permanently residing in New Zealand, and the circumstances and duration of that residence
• Whether your potential contribution to New Zealand will be significant
• The length of your intended stay in New Zealand.
